I Shop, Therefore I Am: Compulsive Buying and the Search for Self, Dr. Benson's book, brings together, for the first time, the most important thinking about this disorder, with contributions from the fields of sociology, marketing, consumer behavior, psychology, and psychiatry. As more and more compulsive buyers recognize that they have a problem, more and more therapists are seeing compulsive buyers in their practices. Therapists and compulsive buyers need an in-depth clinical understanding of the disorder. Defining the syndrome of compulsive consumption, I Shop also examines the range and variations within it, discusses assessment and associated disorders, and delineates successful treatment modalities. Many compulsive buyers and family members have found I Shop to be a valuable resource for recovery.
